Kalamazoo, MI

Square Footage:

15,000SF

Industry and Building Usage:

Industrial – Private maintenance hangar

Budget Scope/Estimate:

$1,100,000

Project Information:

This project was unique in the fact that it was a occupied hangar while construction was ongoing. The hangar can be comprised of multiple aircraft at any particular time and cleanliness can’t be overlooked. Attention to detail and cleanliness protocol was of utmost importance, which means walking with magnets at the end of each shift so that landing gear is protected from construction debris. FCC was able to maintain a barrier between construction and the ongoing Duncan maintenance hangar by leaving the existing door in-place while constructing the new structure and hangar door on the outside of the building. This kept Duncan Aviation operational and safe during construction. The added foam fire suppression system was completely new infrastructure to the hangar. A new water main was brought into the building just for this system. This improvement will allow Duncan to store fueled aircraft inside the hangar. Constant communication and coordination with Duncan and the Kalamazoo Airport Authority was crucial to completing this project on budget and early.
